A little of this...and of that...

I've been hearing that the ice sheets in the Arctic and Antartica are melting much faster than scientists had predicted.  Frankly, I'm worried.  They say we're in the sixth great extinction--all those poor creatures who are going to die because of something humans caused--the Anthropocene Epoch.  We are such an incredibly ignorant species--for all our capabilities.

For me, I'm going to take care of my garden!  I had a horrible accident last year, so I don't know how big it will be, but I've been working on the soil for five years, and I'm not giving that up!  I was in my back yard this week for several days, and the soil is rich and humusy! It's good dirt. Each year, I've put about 11 cu yds of compost on my garden.  I can get it free from the city--the compost all of the useable material that people bring and also what the city brings, and then composts it.  By this time each year, they have several small mountains of compost available to city residents. A lot of veggies from last year have volunteers this year that I'm trying to relocate into pots!  This is my year for container gardening--learning what I need to do differently.  It'll be interesting, I'm sure.

I worry that we might have another draught this summer.  We didn't have much snow or rain this winter, and the forecast for late summer is grim.  I'm really angry at my family because they tore down all of the rainwater tubs I had.  Now I have to start all over! I remember the summer of 2012--mailboxes were melting because it was so hot!
